Drink or dessert? Either way, this drink will liven up any party or get-together. It’s cold, refreshing, dairy-free, and a fan favorite.
Why We Love This Cocktail
This recipe is dairy-free and made with lime sorbet instead of ice cream. It has all of the ingredients you’d expect in a margarita with an ice-cold twist. It’s like having a frozen margarita, but no blender is needed.
Ingredients
Let’s Make Margarita Floats
- Rub a slice of lime over the rim of each cocktail glass.
- Place some green decorating sugar on a small plate.
- Dip the rim of the glasses in the green sugar.
- Add two scoops of sorbet to each glass.
- Pour in tequila, Cointreau, fresh lime juice in that order.
- Slowly top each glass with lemon-lime soda.
Reader Questions
Cointreau is an orange-flavored liqueur. It is actually a brand name of triple-sec. You can easily substitute triple-sec or any other orange-flavored liqueur.
Yes, you can use rainbow or another flavor of sorbet. Or you can use ice cream which will make it smooth and creamy. Keep in mind, it will no longer be considered “dairy-free” if you use ice cream instead of sorbet.

MARGARITA FLOAT question:
You show 1x, 2x, & 3x above the recipe.
I chose 1x, assuming that meant ONE Margarita Float.
With “1x” highlighted on your page, it says 4 SCOOPS of sorbet (that can’t be right), as in the Directions you say add 2 scoops of sorbet to each glass.
Also, 3 oz of LIME JUICE seems a bit much for a 1x receipt? Are you sure the quantities of tequila (2 oz), Cointreau (1 oz) and lime juice (3 oz) are correct under the 1x category (meaning one individual drink)???

Hi Rita
If you look at the recipe card it says the recipe makes 2 servings meaning 2 cocktails. Although the recipe card default has a built-in 1x. 2x, 3x, the default is the 1x which means it makes the number of servings noted above it which is 2 for this recipe. If you wanted the ingredient amount for 4 servings (cocktails) you would select 2x.
