A creamy cool Indian yogurt-based dipping sauce that pairs perfectly with grilled pita bread, fresh veggies dipper, and spicy foods.
Why We Love This Recipe
We love the cool and tangy flavor raita adds to spicy foods, especially Indian foods. It’s like Tasaki but with chunks of tomato, cucumber, onion, and fresh herbs. This traditional Indian condiment makes the perfect dipping sauce with grilled Naan or pita bread for a quick and easy snack or appetizer.
Ingredients
- 1-1/4 cup plain Greek yogurt – it’s best to use regular plain Greek yogurt (not low-fat or fat-free) because the texture is thicker and creamier.
- ½ diced English cucumber (1 cup) – you can substitute with a regular cucumber if needed. If you use a regular cucumber, peel it, and remove the seeds.
- 1-2 diced Roma tomatoes (1 cup).
- ¼ small onion diced (1/4) – if you like more onion flavor, use ½ cup diced.
- 1 tbsp fresh mint leaves diced very small, almost minced.
- 1 tbsp fresh cilantro leaves diced small
- ¼ teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 tbsp fresh lemon juice
