Fruits and More
- Fresh Cranberries – these are in abundance during the holiday season. Stock up on several packages and store them in the freezer. One of our favorite ways to use fresh cranberries during the holiday season is to make Sugar Cranberries.
- Oranges – oranges add a pop of citrus burst to every cocktail. Whether you use a slice, the juice, or the zest, oranges are a must for every cocktail maker.
- Pomegranates – these are also in abundance during the holiday season. While they can be pricy, one pomegranate will produce enough arils (seeds) for all your cocktail needs during the holidays. Go ahead a splurge – it’s worth it!
- Marshmallows – add a little sweetness and nostalgia to hot drinks with marshmallows.
- Syrups – don’t forget about flavored syrups. You can buy them readily in almost every flavor or you can make your simple syrup by heating equal parts of sugar and water and adding extracts like almond, vanilla, mint, etc.
- Candied fruits – these are everywhere during the holidays and make a fun and festive garnish. Add a candied slice of orange or lemon to the side of the cocktail glass or top the cocktail with candied ginger.
Fresh Herbs
- Rosemary – Rosemary screams Christmas tree! And it has an earthy evergreen flavor that adds an amazing aroma and flavor to any cocktail.
- Thyme and Sage – more seasonal herbs that add a savory background.
- Mint – don’t be afraid of mint. It’s an amazing aroma burst for any cocktail.
- Mix and match herbs – the more the merrier!
- Use the “Sugar Cranberry” method with fresh herbs to give them more of a holiday feel.
