An easy, colorful, fun way to start the Easter celebration. This charcuterie board is filled with cheese, meat, nuts, fruit, and Easter candy.
Everyone Loves a Charcuterie Board
Charcuterie (pronounced shaar-koo-tr-ee)boards are an easy and fun way to entertain. You can make them as complex or as simple as you like. They are easy to scale for 1 or 2 people up to large groups of 15-20.
Easter Charcuterie Ingredients
- Edible Easter grass – a sour apple-flavored candy grass sold in many stores in the springtime. I buy it at Target.
- Peeps – it isn’t Easter time without a few peeps in the house. I like the chocolate bottom peeps.
- Springtime candy bars.
- Assorted Easter candy.
- Cured meats – we like prosciutto and salami.
- Dried fruit – we like dried oranges, mandarin oranges, and mangos,
- Cheese – for this board, I use a combination of manchego, baby brie, Colby, and English white cheddar.
- Nuts – they add a needed crunch to the board ingredients – I use Marconi almonds.
- Assorted fresh fruits – I think every charcuterie board should have grapes. I also use strawberries when they are in season.
- Water crackers – I like to use a cracker with a delicate flavor so the flavors of the meats and cheeses shine through.
- Baby brie cheese with jam.
Charcuterie Board
When making any type of charcuterie board think about color, textures, flavors, sweet and savory, and crunchy and smooth.
Boards and Platters
When choosing a board or a platter think about the ingredients you will use and the number of people you are serving. For a small group, select a smaller board or even a platter. Be creative when selecting the board. Think about using a cookie sheet for a larger group, a holiday-themed platter, or even just a roll of parchment paper spread on a table.
Meats
Choose any type of cured meat you like. Browse the deli counter and ask for a taste of anything you haven’t tried. It’s fun to try new flavors and textures on a grazing board.
Cheese
Every board must have some type of cheese and preferably 2-3 different cheeses. Use a combination of hard cheese and soft cheese, mild and strong, creamy and crumbly.
Fruit
Use a combination of dried fruits and fresh fruits. For dried fruit use apricots, oranges, mango, banana chips, raisins, cranberries, and apples. For fresh fruit, use fruits that are in season. And always add a few grapes to the board.
Sweet and Salts
Chocolate candies, sour candies, and gummy candies are always a good choice for a charcuterie board. Small cookies also add that extra sweetness. Nuts and chips and crackers add the crunchiness and saltiness to balance all of the board ingredients.
