Pizza Dough Pretzel Bites

These little pretzel bites are made from store-bought pizza dough. They are salty, buttery, and chewy. We love them as an afternoon snack.

Ingredients

  • 1 ball refrigerator or frozen store-bought pizza dough
  • 6 cups water
  • 1/3 cup baking soda
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • coarse sea salt

Instructions

  • Remove the pizza dough ball from the refrigerator 2 hours before using it.
  • Rub a small bowl with olive oil and place the dough in the bowl while it becomes room temperature.
  • Preheat oven to 425°.Place the egg into a small dish and beat it. Set it aside.
  • Cut the dough ball into 4 equal pieces and then cut the 4 pieces in 1/2.
  • Roll one of the small pieces of dough into a long rope shape.
  • Cut the rope into bite-sized pieces and place them on a parchment paper-lined cookie sheet.
  • Continue cutting all of the dough bites.
  • Fill a large pot 3/4 full of water. Leave about 3 inches at the top. This will stop the water from overflowing when you add the baking soda.
  • Prepare a second cookie sheet by covering it with a layer of paper towels.
  • When the water is boiling, slowly and carefully add the baking soda.
  • Add the dough bites to the water in batches. Cook each batch for 1.5 minutes.
  • Use a slotted spoon to remove the dough bites and place them on the paper towel-covered cookie sheet.
  • When all of the dough bites have cooked in the water, transfer them to another parchment paper-covered cookie sheet.
  • Brush each dough bite with the beaten egg and sprinkle with coarse salt.
  • Bake them for 16-18 minutes or until they are golden brown.
  • While the pretzel bites are baking, melt the butter in the microwave.
  • When the pretzel bites are baked, brush them with melted butter and sprinkle them with more coarse salt.
  • Serve with honey mustard dip.

Notes

Krazy Kitchen Mom Tips
  • Be sure to let the pizza dough ball come to room temperature. This will take about 2 hours.
  • Be very careful adding the baking soda to the boiling pot of water because it will bubble and foam as soon as it comes in contact with the hot water.
  • I like to use salted butter for buttering the pretzel bites when they come out of the oven.
