These little pretzel bites are made from store-bought pizza dough. They are salty, buttery, and chewy. We love them as an afternoon snack.

Why We Love This Recipe

  • They taste just like the salty buttery pretzel bites you buy in the food court.
  • No need to wait for the dough to rise, but I do recommend removing the dough ball from the refrigerator 2 hours before using it.
  • No kneading is required.
  • They are ready in just 30 minutes.
  • They are delicious served warm or at room temperature.

Ingredients

Ball of pizza dough and a container of baking soda on a cookie sheet
  • Store-bought pizza dough ball
  • Baking soda
  • Egg
  • Butter
  • Water
  • Extra virgin olive oil
  • Coarse salt

Let’s Make Pizza Dough Pretzel Bites

  1. Remove the pizza dough ball from the refrigerator 2 hours before using it.
  2. Rub a small bowl with olive oil and place the dough in the bowl while it becomes room temperature.
  3. Preheat oven to 425°.
  4. Place the egg into a small dish and beat it. Set it aside.
  5. Cut the dough ball into 4 equal pieces and then cut the 4 pieces in 1/2.
  6. Roll one of the small pieces of dough into a long rope shape.
  7. Cut the rope into bite-sized pieces and place them on a parchment paper-lined cookie sheet.
  8. Continue cutting all of the dough bites.

  1. Fill a large pot 3/4 full of water. Leave about 3 inches at the top. This will stop the water from overflowing when you add the baking soda.
  2. Prepare a second cookie sheet by covering it with a layer of paper towels.
  3. When the water is boiling, slowly and carefully add the baking soda.
  4. Add the dough bites to the water in batches.
  5. Cook each batch for 1.5 minutes.
  6. Use a slotted spoon to remove the dough bites and place them on the paper towel-covered cookie sheet.
  7. When all of the dough bites have cooked in the water, transfer them to another parchment paper-covered cookie sheet.
  8. Brush each dough bite with the beaten egg and sprinkle with coarse salt.
  9. Bake them for 16-18 minutes or until they are golden brown.
  10. While the pretzel bites are baking, melt the butter in the microwave.
  11. When the pretzel bites are baked, brush them with melted butter and sprinkle them with more coarse salt.
  12. Serve with honey mustard dip.

Krazy Kitchen Mom Tips

  • Be sure to let the pizza dough ball come to room temperature. This will take about 2 hours.
  • Be very careful adding the baking soda to the boiling pot of water because it will bubble and foam as soon as it comes in contact with the hot water.
  • I like to use salted butter for buttering the pretzel bites when they come out of the oven.
