Preheat oven to 400°.
Brown Italian sausage in a non-stick 10" oven-proof skillet on the stovetop.
While sausage is browning, mix 1/2 cup of parmesan cheese with ricotta cheese. Set aside.
Remove cooked sausage with a slotted spoon and place it on a plate covered with a paper towel to absorb any excess greese.
Add sugar, salt, red pepper flakes, and Italian seasoning to store-bought pasta sauce.
Spread 1/4 cup of pasta sauce on the bottom of the same skillet used to cook the sausage.
Break the lasagna noodle to fit the 10" skillet and place a layer on top of the sauce.
Add 1/3 of the remaining sauce to cover the noodles.
Top noodles and sauce with 1/2 of the sausage, dollops of ricotta mixture, and a handful of shredded mozzarella cheese.
Repeat steps 8 and 9.
Top final layer with fresh mozzarella cheese.
Sprinkle with a bit of Italian seasoning and bake for 35 minutes.
Cover and cook for 30 minutes.
Remove cover and cook for another 5-10 minutes.
Let cool for 10 minutes before serving.
