Spicy Avocado Hummas


An easy recipe that adds a new twist to a classic hummus.


  • 1 13 oz. can of chickpea (garbanzo beans) – drained and rinsed
  • 2 large avocados
  • 3 teaspoons tahini
  • 1/3 cup extra virgin olive oil
  • juice from 1 lemon
  • 1 teaspoon each of salt and pepper
  • 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes


  1. In a food processor or blender, pulse mix chickpeas, salt, pepper, lemon juice. Slowly drizzle in olive oil.
  2. Peel avocado and put the 4 halves into the blender and mix until smooth and creamy. (You may need to drizzle in additional olive oil if it is not wet or smooth enough.)
  3. Stir in red papper flakes.
  4. Serve immediately or chill.


You can make this less or more spicy by omitting or adding more red pepper flakes.
