You’re gonna love our take on a classic gin fizz cocktail…the Pomegranate Gin Fizz Cocktail dressed for the holiday season. Lite and refreshing – cheers!

Pomegranate Gin Fizz Cocktail

During the holiday season, I am totally obsessed with everything pomegranate. I love the little arils that pop with tart juice when you bit into them. I usually make my pomegranate cocktails with store-bought pomegranate juice. But for this recipe, I used fresh-squeezed pomegranate juice.

Not only is the color on this drink amazing, so is the light refreshing flavor. I’ll be honest, the most difficult part of making this is seeding the pomegranate so you get each and every one of those arils (pomegranate seeds). Little gems of goodness I call them. And if you’re not the kind of person who likes seeding a pomegranate then do what I have done in the past, just use store-bought pomegranate juice and pomegranate arils for garnish – see – easy peasy!

What is a Gin Fizz and how does it get the “fizz”?

A classic Gin Fizz is made by adding gin, lemon juice, and powdered sugar or egg whites to a cocktail shaker, mixing it well, pouring it into a cocktail glass and then topping it off with soda water. The “fizz” comes from the powdered sugar or egg whites being vigorously mixed. My recipe is a lighter version because I don’t use the powdered sugar or egg whites. The “fizz” in this drink comes from the berry-flavored sparkling water.

simple ingredients

  • Gin – always buy a good quality liquor. You don’t have to go fully top shelf but please don’t go bottom shelf either. It does make a difference in the taste.
  • Pomegranate juice – the recipe card below has two versions of this recipe…one with fresh pomegranate juice and the other with store-bought pomegranate juice. Both are great!
  • Berry flavored sparkling water or soda water – you can buy really great flavors of sparkling water at any grocery store.
  • Fresh lime juice – 1 lime is all it takes for two cocktails.

What does pomegranate taste like?

To me, it’s a mix of tart cranberries and sweet cherries. You can eat the seeds whole or blend them to get the juice as I did in this recipe.

other ways to use pomegranates

  1. I love to add them to Greek yogurt.
  2. Top vanilla ice cream with the seeds.
  3. They are a wonderful sweet/tart bite in salads.
  4. You can eat them alone as a snack.
  5. Add them to a fruit salad.
  6. Use them as a garnish.

I actually got them at the Goodwill Store. Sometimes you can find all kinds of nice glassware there for very low prices.
