Ever wondered what kielbasa actually is?
I like to know about the food I’m eating so a few months ago I did a little bit of homework on what kielbasa really is? Most people probably know that it’s a Polish sausage, meaning that it’s very popular in Polish cuisine. I learned that it’s mainly a pork sausage with a small percentage of beef. While I’m not usually a fan of many “smoked” types of meat, I love the smokiness of Kielbasa sausage. It also has a strong garlic flavor that I think is perfect with the smokiness. It’s what I call a “snappy” sausage, meaning that it has a thick outer skin that snaps when you cut into it and eat it. But not to worry, the skin is not so thick that it makes it really chewy…it’s really quite pleasant to eat. I also categorize Kielbasa as a hearty sausage because it really is dense enough that you know you are eating pork.
