1.5 lbs. ground beef
1 lb. ground turkey
1 small onion – diced
1 green pepper – diced
1 jalapeno – seeds removed and diced
1/2 jalapeno – cut into circles and seeds removed for garnish
Sour cream for garnish
Extra virgin olive oil
2 – 14.5 oz. cans tomato sauce
2 – 14.5 oz. cans fire roasted diced tomatoes
1 – 14.5 oz. can dark red kidney beans – drained
1 – 14.5 oz. can light red kidney beans – drained
3/4 bottle of good brown ale or dark stout beer
3-5 teaspoons of chili powder – we like our chili on the spicy side. If you’re not sure, start with 3 and add more after it’s cooked a bit.
3 teaspoons Mexican hot chili powder – I said we like it hot! This is optional, of course
Cook diced onion and green pepper in olive oil for 5 minutes on medium. Add ground beef and ground turkey and brown. Pour off any grease.
Add tomato sauce and fire roasted tomatoes, chili powders, jalapenos. Cook on high until it boil, then lower to simmer. Add beans and beer and let simmer for 45 minutes on low.
Serve with a garnish of sour cream and jalapeno pepper slices
