Sangria Ingredients

Black Sangria Ingredients

Red Wine – I use a California red wine blend called Apothic Dark. It is sold in most liquor stores.

Cointreau – This is an orange liquor. You can substitute it by using Triple Sec or even brandy.

Cranberry Juice or Cranberry juice cocktail

Fruit – Fresh Cranberries, Fresh Black Berries, Fresh Concord Grapes

Let’s Make The Sangria

  • Add the berries and grapes to a small pitcher.
  • Add the wine.
  • Add the Cointreau.
  • Add the cranberry juice.
  • Refrigerate for at least two hours up to overnight.
  • Serve over ice with a fresh rosemary sprig.

Sangria originated in Spain. It’s a very popular wine drink that’s usually made with red wine, chopped fruit, and brandy. It’s chilled and then served over ice.

What type of red wine is best for sangria?

I really enjoyed the flavors of the California blend I used for this recipe. But you could also use any type of Spanish red wine, a Syrah, Zinfandel, Merlot, or Cabernet Sauvignon.

How should I serve this drink for a party?

You can serve it in a large or smaller pitcher or in a party punch bowl.

How far ahead of time can I make this drink?

You can make this drink up to 24 hours in advance of serving it. Store it covered in the refrigerator.

  • Don’t let this wine fool you… it packs a punch and is perfect for sipping.
  • Whichever red wine you choose to use, make sure it’s a good wine that you like. You certainly don’t need to spend a lot; a red wine that is between $13 – $17 dollars is fine.
  • This wine goes great with any type of Tex-Mex or Italian food.

Ingredients
  

  • 1/3 bottel red wine
  • 1 shot Cointreau or Triple Sec
  • 6-8 ounces cranberry juice
  • 1/3 pint fresh blackberries
  • 1/2 cup fresh cranberries
  • 1 cup small concord or black grapes
  • fresh rosemary sprigs for garnish

Method
