Dark balsamic vinegar and sugar bring out the deep sweet rich flavor in my Easy Sweet Balsamic Strawberries recipe. Serve it as a sauce on ice cream or chicken or eat it plain.
If I told you that I marinated these juice red strawberries in balsamic vinegar and sugar, I bet you wouldn’t believe me. That’s because the balsamic vinegar brings out the sweetness of the berries and don’t even taste the vinegar.
All you need is three ingredients
Yup – that’s right – three easy ingredients and 1 hour and you have the most amazing sweet strawberries.
- Juicy ripe strawberries
- Balsamic Vinegar
- Sugar
What is balsamic vinegar
Balsamic vinegar is a deep dark rich vinegar made from grapes. It originated in Italy and is used as a condiment, as a sauce, a flavor enhancer, and even as a drink shot.
I have both regular (dark) balsamic vinegar and white balsamic vinegar in my pantry. The white balsamic is a little lighter in flavor but just as sweet.
The only reason I have both is for the color. Sometimes I don’t want the dark vinegar to color the food and balsamic can do that because it is so dark.
I thought about using the white balsamic in this recipe, but I really wanted some added darkness which ended up really bringing out the beautiful red color of the ripe juice strawberries.
how to sever my easy sweet balsamic strawberries
One of my favorite ways to serve these strawberries is on top of french toast with a dollop of sour cream.
You may be questioning the sour cream, but I’m telling you it’s fantastic on french toast. The first time I had it was at a restaurant in Buckhead GA while I was visiting my daughter. One bite and I swore that I’d never eat french toast without sour cream again. You really must try it.
other ways to serve the strawberries
- As a topping for ice cream or yogurt
- Fill a crepe with these berries and sour cream
- Put them on grilled port or chicken
- Add them to your smoothie ingredients
- Eat them alone as a sweet fruit side dish
