Get cozy this winter with a warm glass of Easy Chai Hot Chocolate. Made with chocolate almond milk and warm spices to keep you warm all day.
I absolutely love the flavor of Chai. Warm spices that go perfectly with chocolate. My Easy Chai Hot Chocolate recipe is made with almond milk. And not just any almond milk, but chocolate almond milk which makes this recipe so easy anyone can make it anytime.
What spices are in chai hot chocolate?
Chai spice combinations really vary but usually, they are made with cardamom, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, peppercorns and sometimes sugar. For my spice blend, I used some traditional chai spices, like cardamom and cinnamon, but I also added star anise, whole cloves, and some vanilla. I steep all of these flavors along with the almond milk for about 20 minutes to make sure that the spices have released all of their warm and delicious flavors.
what do you need to make this chai hot chocolate?
- Stove-top pan to warm the hot chocolate.
- A 6 inch-by-6 inch piece of cheesecloth.
- A small piece of string.
- Chocolate almond milk
- Spices
Wrap the spices in cheesecloth
When you are using whole spices, it’s really a good idea to wrap them in a piece of cheesecloth and tie it closed with a piece of string. This way, you will not be digging teeny tiny pieces of peppercorn out of the drink when it’s finished steeping. I added the cinnamon stick, whole peppercorns, star anise, and black peppercorns to the center of my cheesecloth and pulled up the corners, and tied them to make a nice little sachet or bundle. Then I just tossed it into the chocolate almond milk to do its magic.
Where to buy cheesecloth
Cheesecloth is a fine cotton fabric that looks a little bit like gauze. It allows the flavors in the spices to seep through without the spices floating loosely in liquid. It comes in sheets and you simply cut the amount you need with scissors. You can buy cheesecloth from Amazon – click here.
Krazy Kitchen Mom Tip
You can also make this hot chocolate, allow this to cool after it simmers for 20 minutes. Then store it in the refrigerator in a jar or container with a lid so you can enjoy Iced Chia Hot Chocolate. Serve it over ice in a tall glass with a straw…beleive me…it’s delicious!
