This fancy creamy burrata fig appetizer platter will impress your guests and they will have no idea how easy it is to make.
Why We Love This Appetizer
- It’s super simple to make and ready in just a few minutes.
- It’s fresh and creamy from the burrata and sweet and rich from the fresh Black Mission Figs.
- It looks fancy enough for an upscale gathering and casual enough for an afternoon brunch or snack.
Ingredients
- Black Mission Figs have a creamy, almost jam texture. They are sweet but not sugary. They can be found in most grocery stores between May and November.
- Balsamic Vinegar adds a rich, deep, complex flavor that pops on your palate and pairs perfectly with the figs.
- Honey adds just the right amount of savory sweetness to cut the tang from the vinegar.
- Fresh Burrata Cheese is an Italian cows-milk cheese found in most grocery stores’ specialty cheese sections. It’s mild and creamy. Fresh mozzarella is a good substitute if you cannot find burrata.
- Prosciutto is one of my favorite cuts of deli meat. It’s an Italian dry-cured ham. It’s cut into very thin slices and is found in the specialty cheese and meat section of most groceries stores. Good quality prosciutto is very expensive…see my KKM Tips below for how to buy just the right amount of prosciutto that won’t break the bank.
- Spring Mix Salad Greens I like to serve this as a salad appetizer with mixed greens tossed in the same balsamic vinegar and honey mixture I use to brush the figs with.
- Good Quality Baguette toasted slightly adds the needed crunch to this appetizer platter.
Let’s Make a Burrata Fig Appetizer Platter
- Slice the figs into quarters or eighths for larger figs.
- Separate the prosciutto slices and tear each slice into four pieces.
- Mix balsamic and honey until completely combined.
- Brush the figs with the balsamic honey mixture.
- Toss the mixed greens with the remaining balsamic honey mixture.
- Make a wreath shape on a serving platter with the dressed mixed greens.
- Place one burrata ball into the center of the wreath and gently tear it open to expose the silky creamy center.
- Lightly salt and pepper the cheese and greens.
- Arrange the figs and prosciutto pieces over the cheese and greens.
- Serve with toasted baguette slices or crispy crackers.
Krazy Kitchen Mom Tips
- No need to peel Black Mission Figs. The entire fig, including the skin, is completely edible. The skin is thin and delicate and a great source of vitamins and antioxidants.
- If you cannot find fresh figs, dried black mission figs are a great substitute. I recommend slicing dried figs into smaller bite-sized pieces if they are used in this recipe.
- Prosciutto can be very expensive, so I recommend buying just the amount you need for the recipe. Ask the person at the deli counter to cut 4-6 very thin slices of prosciutto. You will save a lot of money and will not have any waste.
