The Columbian Style Hot Dog is made with simple ingredients including pineapple, cheese, pink sauce, and potato chips. This is a must-try hot dog at your next cookout.
Why We Love This Hot Dog
We first had this hot dog from a small street vendor located in the entryway of an off-the-beat pub in Sedona AZ. He called himself “The Hot Dog Man”. The sweet and salty flavor is a real surprise and the ingredients go well together.
This hot dog was so good that it has become a favorite of ours and still is a favorite after many years.
Ingredients
- 4 top-split hot dog buns
- 4 hot dogs
- 1/3 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- ¼ cup crushed pineapple – juice drained and discarded
- 2 tbsp mayonnaise
- 2 tbsp ketchup
- 12-15 potato chips
Let’s Make Columbian-Style Hot Dogs
- Grill or boil hot dog.
- Grill hot dog bun if desired
- While the dot hogs are cooking, mix together the mayonnaise and ketchup for the “pink sauce”.
To Assemble
- Start with the bun
- Add hot dog
- Add 1 tbsp crushed pineapple on top of each hot dog
- Divide the cheese equally on top of each hot dog.
- Add a handful of crushed potato chips to the top of each hot dog.
- Drizzle them with the “pink sauce”.
The Hot Dog Man Update
I went online to find the small offbeat pub where we first had this fun hot dog. It appears that they have done well, expanded their business, and have moved to a larger location with a full kitchen of their own and I could not find any mention of The Hot Dog Man.

I would never think of putting those ingredients together, but it actually sounds delicious! I’m a fan of Hawaiian pizza and combining savory and sweet, so why not!
