I don’t know why, but sometimes I just crave doughnuts. Not just any doughnuts, but lovely little pillows of Cinnamon Sugar Sour Cream Doughnuts. What I like best about these is that there is no frying. You simply fill the mini doughnut pans and bake them. They are perfect for kids since they’re little bits and they make a great little sweet addition to any breakfast for brunch.
Is it Doughnut or Donut?
The old-fashioned traditional spelling was Doughnut. But with the name of that famous coffee and donut shop (you know the one), “Donut” has become the more common way to spell it. But for now, I’m sticking with tradition…Doughnut.
Other Flavors of Glaze:
- You can use any fruit juice as a glaze. I’ve used freshly squeezed lemon juice, orange juice, and grapefruit juice.
- For a more sweet taste, you can use just confectioners sugar and water or milk. You could also add cinnamon to this mixture.

Ingredients
For the Doughnuts:
- 1 cup flour
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
- Dash of salt
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- dash of water
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil
For the Sour Cream Glaze
- 1/2 cup confectioners (powdered) sugar
- 2 TBS sour cream
- 1 teaspoon milk
For the Cinnamon Sugar Sprinkle
- 2 TBS sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Instructions
For the Doughnuts
- Preheat oven to 350°
- Mix together the flour, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
- In a separate bowl whisk together the egg, sour cream, vegetable oil, vanilla, and sugar.
- Pour the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients and whisk until fully combined.
- Spray doughnut trays with non-stick cooking spray.
- Add a teaspoon of the dough to each section of the doughnut tray.
- Bake for 16-18 minutes.
- Cool completely before glazing.
- Sprinkle with cinnamon sugar mixture.

Whisk together all of the ingredients.
