How do you make a traditional mojito better? You add fresh basil and get a delicious, thirst quenching Basil Lime Mojito cocktail. The basil compliments the mint and lime for a new taste twist.
I was never much of a mojito person until I moved to Florida. And even then, just a bit. But now, after 11 years of living in the “land of mojitos” (it’s not really called that, its just what I call it – [inster big smile]), I’ve learned to love them. One of the things I like to do with traditional cocktail recipes is to get them a twist and that’s exactly what I did with this refreshing Basil Lime Mojito.
The ingredients are pretty straightforward:
- Rum
- Fresh mint
- Fresh basil
- Lime juice
- Sugar
- Simple syrup
- Seltzer water
When it comes to making cocktails, I never skimp on ingredients – I use fresh fruits and herbs, a good quality liquor, and simple syrup. If you don’t want to buy simple syrup, you can make it. Simply mix equal parts sugar and what in a stove top pan and heat until the sugar is fully dissolved. Cool the mixture fully and then refrigerate for up to 1 month.
Here’s all the equipment you will need to make this cocktail:
- A large glass
- A Cocktail Muddler
That’s it – two things plus the ingredients and you have a delightfully refreshing twist on the traditional mojito.
Now the question is – what do you serve to eat with your new Basil Lime Mojito? These are the perfect pairings:
Egg Roll Lettuce Wraps Asian Style Chicken Meatballs Ranch Oyster Crackers
