cheese fondue with three fork dipping into the pot

Why We Love This Recipe

I grew up eating fondue. My Mom made it during the holidays and it always brings back fond memories. In fact, it was one of the highlight meals Vince and I had on our honeymoon. I love the silkiness of the nutty gruyere cheese with all of the flavors and textures of different dippers.

It’s easy and fun and it’s family-friendly. We’ve replaced the traditional white wine that is in most cheese fondue for apple cider. The apple cider still provides the background tart flavor so it’s a great substitute for wine.

Try in for your next family game night – It will certainly be a big hit.

Ingredients

Apple cider, gruyere and swiss cheese and cornstarch

Let’s Make Apple Cider Cheese Fondue

  1. Warm the pot of the fondue pot by turning it on low or lighting a low flame.
  2. Grate the cheeses.
  3. Add the apple cider and let it warm for 2-3 minutes.
  4. Turn the heat to medium and stir in corn starch.
  5. Add cheese 1/4 cup at a time stirring with a whisk or a fork.
  6. Get ready to dip and enjoy!

Dippers

Use any type of dippers you like. For this recipe, we prefer fall fruit, bread, and large pretzel rods.

2 apples, 2 pears, baguette, several pretzel rods

Krazy Kitchen Mom Tips

  • While apple cider is best stored in the refrigerator, I recommend taking the amount needed out of the refrigerator and starting with room-temperature cider.
  • You can easily substitute hard cider or white wine for the apple cider.
