This Apple Butter Bacon Flatbread is crispy from the flatbread, sweet from the apple butter, salty from the bacon, and creamy from the cheese.
I absolutely love making and eating flatbreads. I pretty traditional when it comes to pizza alone; I like sausage, pepperoni, cheese, and sometimes green olives. But when it comes to flatbread, the sky is the limit for me.
I love adding greens to flatbreads. For this recipe, I simply tossed fresh arugula with some extra virgin olive oil and balsamic vinegar and topped the flatbread with it after I baked it. I also served the extra arugula salad on the side.
What Does Arugula Taste Like?
Arugula has a bold flavor. It is peppery, spicy and bitter. Most recipes use it as an addition to other lettuce types in a salad because of it’s bold flavors. I tossed it in balsamic vinegar that cuts some of the bitterness but still lets the peppery flavor come out. It also goes very well with the salty bacon in this recipe.
Krazy Kitchen Mom Tip
- A long time ago, I discovered that cutting bacon with kitchen scissors or shears is the only way to cut bacon. I used 8 slices of bacon in this recipe. To cut them, I made to stacks of four pieces of bacon and simply cut them into small piece with the kitchen scissors.
