The first time I had fried goat cheese was at a friends wedding. They were crispy on the outside and smooth and creamy on the inside. They were served on top of a bright green salad with roasted beets. I feel in love – I mean totally in love – with this delicious little bite of tangy cheese! The year after my friend’s wedding, we decided to back to the same hotel and see if they had the salad on the lunch menu. Unfortunately, the chef said they no longer served it. But he made us a deal and asked us to come back the next week and he would make the salad, goat cheese balls and all just for us. And we continue to go back once a year, at the holidays, for our special little goat cheese treats.
Of course, since I am such a fan of goat cheese and these tangy little cheese balls, I decided to try them out myself – but using my Air Fryer. Success! Air Fryer Goat Cheese Balls turned out amazing. Now I can have them any time I want.
Does goat cheese come from goats?
The answer here is pretty easy – goat cheese is made from goats milk which has a tart and tangy flavor. Goat cheese is a soft cheese that gets softer when you let it sit at room temperature or as it gets warmer. Although it does soften, it does not melt so you would never use it in a recipe where you wanted the cheese to melt. The non-melting factor makes it perfect for frying or air frying.
How does an air fryer work?
An air fryer is similar to a convection oven because it uses circulating hot air which cooks food and also makes it crispy. Air frying is a healthier way to fry compared to traditional frying where you submerge food into hot oil. With an air fryer, you can use a spritz of oil for browning but it certainly uses significantly less oil. In fact, you don’t even need to spritz with oil; it’s a matter of looks rather than function.

Krazy Kitchen Mom tip:
To make these air fryer goat cheese balls a uniform size, I use a small melon baller. Here’s a link to the one I use:

Crispy creamy Air Fryer Goat Cheese Balls drizzled with honey make a wonderful appetizer. But our favorite way to serve them is on a crisp green salad.
Ingredients
- 4 ounces of goat cheese
- 1 egg – beaten
- 3 TBS flour
- 1/3 cup panko bread crumbs
Instructions
- Take the goat cheese out of the refrigerator 30 minutes prior to making so it softens.
- Make a dredging station by setting up three flat bowls: one with the flour, one with the egg (beaten), and one with the panko bread crumbs – in that order.
- Using a small melon baller, scoop equal amounts of the goat cheese and form them into little balls. Line them on a parchment covered small tray or cookie sheet.
- Place the cookie sheet with the balls into the freezer for 20-30 minutes.
- Remove the balls from the refrigerator and dip each goat cheese ball into the flour, then the egg and then in the bread crumbs. Return the covered ball to the lined cookie sheet.
- Continue dredging all of the goat cheese balls until they are all covered.
- Place the cookie sheet with the balls into the refrigerator for 15 minutes.
- Set the air fryer for 390°
- Cook them in batches for 3-4 minutes.
